Would this be a cover keeping it close to the original, or making it sound totally different?

I'll scope that after work if I can.
I dig everything but the chorus. Really, just the bass intro is pretty sweet. Plus that whole guitar riff during the verses.
Vocally, I don't really have a roadmap in mind yet. I'm still working on piecing that one together.

That's where I get stuck, too. The original vocal setup is so unique, it's very difficult to stray from it and still make it sound good. And if you don't change it, the whole song pretty much just sounds the same as the original.....

Good call. Thanks! Mas Tequila should also be added to that list.
My understanding is that it's kind of a biker bar, but the details were fuzzy at best.
